Writer’s Predictions 2017/18 – Part Two

by • August 10, 2017 • UncategorizedComments (0)363

For the second day in a row true faith bring you season predictions from a selection of writers.  As usual there’s a good mix of opinion from a top set of mags.  Please not that authors have the right to pretend these opinions have nothing at all to do with them if we reach a cup final this season (we won’t).

Where will NUFC finish this season and why?
Between 10th – 20th. The league has some utter rubbish in it, 13 teams trying to not get relegated, we’re one of them
Are you happy with NUFC’s Summer business?
Too early to give a complete opinion, still a month to go, but ultimately if Rafa’s happy then so am I, if he’s not then neither am I
Which team are you looking forward to welcoming most to SJP and why?
None, I want them all to be shitting themselves and to be sent on their way, beaten and broken
Which team are you looking forward to visiting away from home and why?
West Ham, to tick off a new ground
Which player will be crucial for us this season?
Our GK, he’ll be extremely busy I’d imagine
Which player can you see failing to perform this season?
Mitrovic, but I have my doubts about Lascelles, Colback, Mbemba, Perez and Gayle to deliver in the premier league
Will Rafa Benitez be here at the end of the season?
I thought he’d already gone…… 479 times since May 7th….. probably not
Who will win the league?
The United Arab Emirates…. I mean Manchester City
Who is going down?
Brighton
Huddersfield
Watford
Actually, so long as it’s not us, anyone will do

Where will NUFC finish this season and why?

11th. Rafa will have the team organised and our system will allow us to gain points ta from better sides.

Additionally, there are a good number of teams/squads that are already worse than us.

Are you happy with NUFC’s Summer business?

So far – yes. Although that is contingent on us bringing in at least two first team players.

Which team are you looking forward to welcoming most to SJP and why?

Liverpool – I think we will turn them over at home. It’ll be a good atmosphere (the rafa effect) and we can give wijnalduma nice geordie welcome back.

Which team are you looking forward to visiting away from home and why?

Me and some of the lads are doing west ham away for my birthday. Christmas away games are always mint.

Which player will be crucial for us this season?

Lejeune – I’m really hoping he can step up and make an impact from day one as I don’t think the rest of our centre half options are good enough without playing alongside someone better. If he doesn’t come good quickly I fear we will ship a lot of goals.

Which player can you see failing to perform this season?

Aside from all of our keeper options I’d have to go with Mitro. He simply isn’t good enough.

Will Rafa Benitez be here at the end of the season?

Yes.

Who will win the league?

Toon. Seriously I think it will probably be Chelsea. They’ve made some top class additions to an already very good squad. United and City will be their closest challengers.

Who is going down?

Huddersfield, Brighton and Burnley. Villa Mackems and one other to go down from championship (just in case you wondered what I thought about that too).

Where will NUFC finish this season and why?

14th if Rafa stays and organises the team. If he leaves, 18th

Are you happy with NUFC’s Summer business?

No.  We need more creativity in the team and if Gayle gets injured we are stuffed for goals. Both will require significant investment and Ashley has made it clear it’s not coming out of his pocket. We need to sell to clear spaces in the 25 man squad, reduce the wage bill and generate some cash to buy

Which team are you looking forward to welcoming most to SJP and why?

Anybody we beat will be very welcome. Mourinho’s teams usually donate 3 points to our just and righteous cause so I am looking forward to them

Which team are you looking forward to visiting away from home and why?

Spurs at Wembley should be fun

Which player will be crucial for us this season?

Unless we sign another striker, keeping Dwight Gayle fit is crucial to our chances this season

Which player can you see failing to perform this season?

Despite scoring a few in pre-season Mitrovic will yet again disappoint (if he isn’t sold during the window)

Will Rafa Benitez be here at the end of the season?

I hope and think so. If he isn’t we’re stuffed

Who will win the league?

Manchester City have spent another fortune (FFP anyone?) and the recruitment of new full backs will make them very difficult to contain. I think they’ll beat Chelsea to the title

Who is going down?

Huddersfield have bought a lot of players again but I think they will struggle. Brighton may find the gap in class difficult to bridge. I think WBA may find it difficult this season. It will also be interesting to see how Palace go under de Boer. Watford struggled at the end of last season but the appointment of Marco Silva might be enough to save them. So the Terriers, the Seagulls and the Throstles

Where will NUFC finish this season and why?

15th, we’ve got a young inexperienced team, any injuries to the first team would be a disaster. We lack depth.

Are you happy with NUFC’s Summer business?

No we’ve not signed any proven quality and failed to shift the dross. Hangover from the previous era has probably limited who Rafa can bring in.

Which team are you looking forward to welcoming most to SJP and why

Man U, Rafa vs Jose should be good.

Which team are you looking forward to visiting away from home and why?

Spurs – excuse to go to Wembley.

Which player will be crucial for us this season?

Jonjo shelvey – we saw last season how critical he is, and will be again this year.

Which player can you see failing to perform this season?

Paul Dummet – couldn’t hack the premier league in his previous attempts and I don’t see why this should be any different.

Will Rafa Benitez be here at the end of the season?

Yes

Who will win the league?

Man U

Who is going down?

Huddersfield, Brighton, Swansea

Where will NUFC finish this season and why?
14th, behind the pack due to years out of the premier league and the £, but rafas worth a few spots
Are you happy with NUFC’s Summer business?
No, i like murphy and hope Merino can push hayden to next level, both will play a big part but its not enough to stave off a tough season
Which team are you looking forward to welcoming most to SJP and why?
All of them, after the shite we saw most weeks last season it will be good to see a team come and try to atleast play some football vs us
Which team are you looking forward to visiting away from home and why?
Liverpool/Everton- chance to relive my uni days, a Rafa love in and the antidote to our summer of austerity (Everton are worse now than last season and spent 100m+ to do it)
Which player(s) will be crucial for us this season?
Obvious one but Gayle and Shelvey need to stay on the pitch, I’m worried if either miss significant time!
Which player can you see failing to perform this season?
Lascelles – I like the lad, good character and captain and he’s young so still time to develop into a good player but he regressed last season at a lower level, hes behind Clark and now has even more competition with Lejeune and Mbemba (if he can learn some more english words) – be interested to see how much game time he gets
Will Rafa Benitez be here at the end of the season?
Yes – where else would he go?!?! He’s loved, close to family and he hates China
Who will win the league?
Man City – i don’t expect anyone to be able to stop them and they’ve now got some defenders
Who is going down?
Brighton, Huddersfield, Watford
Ben Wade @Bjwade3
Where will NUFC finish this season and why?
8-10th
Were “better than the rest” but haven’t done enough this summer to jump straight into the top 7.
Are you happy with NUFC’s Summer business?
Yes and no. Wer doing the best we can with the budget we have. I’d have liked to have seen more outgoings and perhaps 1 or 2 more recognised signings. But the market is just mental this summer. As long as every transfer window going forward is progress. I’m ok with it.
Which team are you looking forward to welcoming most to SJP and why?
Sunder…. oh wait. Got to be Man U with Mourinho. We tend to do well against the bloke.
Which team are you looking forward to visiting away from home and why?
Huddersfield. It’s the first one in months and long overdue!
Which player will be crucial for us this season?
None. We have no stand out players. This season is a massive team effort.
Which player can you see failing to perform this season?
Mitro. Does it every year.
Will Rafa Benitez be here at the end of the season?
Yes
Who will win the league?
Chelsea
Who is going down?
Huddersfield, Brighton, Watford/Burnley
Simon Campbell @simoncambell11
Where will NUFC finish this season and why?
16th – Start quite brightly, struggle from December onwards, nowhere near enough quality in depth
Are you happy with NUFC’s Summer business?
Unsure, know nothing really about the signings other than Manquillo who I’m highly dubious about. If we don’t buy at least one decent striker before the window closes, we’ll be relegated
Which team are you looking forward to welcoming most to SJP and why?
Hand on heart, I’m not really bothered about any of the other teams in the PL this season. It’s nice to be at home on Boxing day and Chelsea on the last day could be great or a nightmare depending on where we both are
Which team are you looking forward to visiting away from home and why?
The only fixture I looked out for was Wembley and I can’t wait for it. Arsenal just before Xmas will be a canny weekend too
Which player will be crucial for us this season?
Shelvey still has a lot to prove for me, but he could be the difference for us this season
Will Rafa be here at the end of the season?
Ask me again on 1st September!
Who will win the league?
Man United, unattractively
Who is going down?
Huddersfield, Stoke, Burnley
