This PODCAST is a little different from the usual as Taylor & Besty are joined by yours UpTheretruly’and a couple of very special guests.

This time our PODCAST is honoured to welcome two local authors who have new books published which we believe are excellent reading material for the kind of readers we attract, namely intelligent, beautiful and into the history of our region’s football and of course Newcastle United. We have readers who want to know more.

We are delighted to welcome into the PODCAST den Michael Walker, a football scribbler of some repute who has provided insightful copy for none other than The Guardian, The Mail, The Independent and who is now strutting his stuff for the Irish Times as their NE Football correspondent.

Michael has recently had his first book published – UP THERE – something of a tour-de-force of the modern history of North East football from Newcastle United to the Northern League and all points in between.

Similarly, we are also delighted to welcome Paul Brown, United season ticket holder of ATSFmany years pain and suffering as well as a well-established author with numerous titles to his name.

Paul has just had the excellent ALL THE SMILING FACES published and if Newcastle United’s colourful and proud history floats your boat, then this is’a ‘must for you.

This book is all about the earliest days of Newcastle United and before, not from 1892 (the year United was formed) but from 1881 and the coming together of Newcastle East End and West End to form the club we support today. Paul exploress the foundations and earliest part of United’s history including its formative years in the late noneteenth century as well as the glorious Edwardian era and life after WW1. Its a bloody great book and no mistake.

Both Paul and Michael were excellent guests and we hope listening to their patter as much as we did.

Both books are on sale at Waterstones and The Backpage in town as well as at the Metrocentre.
