Wear, NE29 6UA

There can’t be many Non-League clubs in the region who are on as big a high as North NorthShielsdgroundShields. The Ultras on the Curva Nord are bouncing as their side have continued last season’s romp to promotion with a brilliant start to the their Northern League Division One campaign and are also awaiting a FA Vase Quarter Final tie against Kent outfit Phoenix Sports.

The Robins sit top of the Northern League Division One table and manager Graham Fenton (yes that one!) has put together a brilliant attacking outfit. Striker Gareth Bainbridge is in the middle of an impressive campaign and is ably supported by the likes of Dean Holmes and Denver Morris. They are on a fine run of form that has seen them beaten only once in all competitions since mid November and they will look to continue that run of form this coming Saturday.

Shildon jointly hold the record for the most FA Cup fixtures played this season. Their run to the Fourth and Final Qualifying Round saw them play nine games before bravely falling to Norton United and that has them playing catch up in the Northern League. The Railwaymen have a squad bulging with talent and include former NUFC youngsters Mark Doninger and Liam Atkin in their ranks.

They current sit in eighth position in the table, albeit with four games in hand on their hosts. They are ten points adrift of Shields so can still play a part in the title race and live up to their tag of pre-season favourites. This will actually be their first away fixture in four weeks, their last journey took them to a struggling Crook Town side and the Railwaymen ran out comfortable 11-0 winners.

This should be an outstanding fixture between two great North East Non League clubs and seems to guarantee entertainment and goals. With the added bonus of NUFC season ticket holders getting in cheaper upon showing their season ticket I would strongly recommend getting yourself along to Ralph Gardiner Park, or as it is now known the Daren Persson Stadium for what should be an absolute cracker!

There are plenty of tasty looking fixtures for NUFC supporters to go to in favour of trips to IKEA or heaven forbid, Asda!. Blyth Spartans epic FA Cup run may be over but they still believe they are in with a shout of the play offs in the Evo-Stik NPL and they welcome Curzon Ashton to Croft Park. Spennymoor Town are also in with a shout of the play offs in the Evo-Stik League’s second tier and they host New Mills.

In the Northern League First Division Jarrow Roofing’s game with Guisborough Town looks full of goals whilst Marske United will look to keep up the pressure on North Shields when they face Newton Aycliffe. In the Second Division Norton and Stockton Ancients against Team Northumbria will be a vital game in the promotion race and leaders Seaham Red Star will look to continue their impressive recent form when they head to Chester-le-Street Town
