true faith : JOHN AND LIAM – Paying Respects

There will be a moment when friends and family of John Alder and Liam Sweeney will Memory1gather at the Sir Bobby Robson statue at the SW corner of the Gallowgate End, St. James’ Park today at 12 noon to pay respects to the two lads.

All are welcome.

It is a personal opinion of mine but I would imagine given their response over the last few days, Sunderland supporters would be especially welcome.

Books of condolence have been opened at St Andrew’s Church in Gallowgate and St Mary’s RC Cathedral on Clayton St. West, both in Newcastle city centre.

A staggering £22,000+ has been raised from a fund established by Sunderland supporters.

I understand a contribution from that fund will be made to the families for funeral costs and considerable donations will be made to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and Marie Curie charities at the wishes of the two families.

There is a further fund which was established on Saturday (19/Jul/14) by Newcastle United supporters to similarly raise funds for funeral costs and to pay for a flag to commemorate Liam and John.

That fund is here should you wish to donate.

Given the amount currently raised, I’d imagine a further charitable donation will be made in memory of John and Liam.

With regards further charitable donations from the funds raised, I saw this on Twitter the other day – might it be appropriate that the Percy Hedley Foundation be a recipient of a donation, given the connection with the MH17 tragedy? Just a thought…

Can I take this opportunity to express my gratitude and pride in everyone from the NE and beyond, who have contributed and reacted with such dignity to this most terrible of situations.
