Anyone noticed the nights are coming in? Yeah, that can buggar off!  Anyway here we are ready for the last of our summer bank holidays and I have some musical suggestions for the weekend comrades nothing else. Let’s hope the sun shines and we can get those BBQ’s out or at least have a bear in the garden.

NATHANIEL RATELIFF AND THE NIGHT SWEATS – S.O.B.

Nathaniel Rateliff is a singer-songwriter from Denver, Colorado. Acclaimed for his folk based, song writing, Rateliff has gained attention with Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, the soulful, R&B combo he formed in 2013. Here is their first album the self-titled Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats via Stax Records and their lead single being this little belter.  I just heard this for the first time yesterday and I bloody love it. R&B/Soul meets Gospel this track has it all.  I listened to the album last night and ordered it this morning.  Hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

JIMMY CLIFF – MAMA LOOK AT THE MOUNTAINS

Jimmy Cliff is a Jamaican ska & reggae musician, multi-instrumentalist, singer and actor. He is the only living musician to hold the Order of Merit, the highest honour that can be granted by the Jamaican government for achievements in the arts and sciences. Cliff is best known among mainstream audiences for songs such as “Wonderful World, Beautiful People”, “Many Rivers to Cross”, “You Can Get It If You Really Want”, “The Harder They Come”, “Reggae Night” and “Hakuna Matata”, and his covers of Cat Stevens’ “Wild World” and Johnny Nash’s “I Can See Clearly Now” from the film Cool Running’s. He starred in the film The Harder They Come, which helped popularize reggae across the world. Cliff was one of five performers inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.

Heard this on holiday and been listening to it all week.  Love this album and Jimmy. Proper old laid back Jamaican sound, what’s not to love.

 JASMINE THOMPSON – ADORE

Jasmine Ying Thompson is a British singer and songwriter from London. Thompson became well-known with her YouTube channel, which has over 1,500,000 subscribers and over 150 million views.

I heard this young lasses singing the vocals on a remake of ‘Chaka Khan’s’ ‘Ain’t Nobody’ by Felix Jaehn and was impressed. That song is my all-time favourite and I don’t normally like covers of it. However I love her voice and liked Felix’s production. I heard him being interviewed on the radio and he told listeners he had found Jasmine on YouTube and approached her about doing vocals for him. After a little google search I found out this lass is 14 years old, WOW!!!  So young and yet such an amazing voice already.  Adore is her latest recording and isn’t realised until 18th September but I’m sure this wee lass and this track are going to be a big hit.  What seems to be an effortless vocal and a somewhat eerie soft voice, I love it.

Enjoy the weekend you lot and keep on keeping on………………………………..
