Dear tf,
A 'Dilemma'
'a situation requiring a choice between equally undesirable alternatives'
My teacher talked about dilemmas in A level English, Anthony and Cleo, Tess of the Durbs, that kind of stuff and I must admit I never really related to it. Like most of the people of the North East, I saw things pretty black and white, worked things out in my mind and took any painful choices in my stride.
Even when I walked out on my ( now ex) wife its was not a dilemma because I could see that the harder I tried to make things happy the more unhappy she was.
Now for the first time in my life I understand what a true dilemma is.
I've just watched us fail to create much against a 10 man Leicester and I ask myself what will happen to this team in the Premiership? Tonight I know I will dream about this and wake up in a cold sweat. I shudder.
Last time we were top of this league we already had the nucleus of a good side and KK bought in Premiership quality players in January to make an assault on the top division because 'consolidation' was not in his vocabulary.
So the question is - do we really want to go up? If we do we are facing a Derby, Watford, SMB season of complete humiliation.
Then again, if we do scramble into promotion, will the FCB be able to sell us and get out of our lives?
I predict a slow decline into 3rd and loss in the play-offs.
Mike
Dear tf,
What is it about Chris Hughton that he seems obsessed with buying defenders. Surely what we are crying out for are a couple (at least) of decent quality midfielders.
Nicky Butt has never been worthy of a place in the team. He is arrogant, lazy and simply not good enough. Man U don't let decent players leave as a rule and even Birmingham didn't make much (if any) of an effort to keep him after his loan spell there. And as for Kevin Nolan - my old Granny is quicker and nimbler than him and she's been dead for 30 odd years (God rest her soul).
Danny Guthrie? Well I suppose he has a bit of energy at least but there is no real ability there.
Then there's Alan Smith. I have never ever seen Smith make a creative pass, a pass that splits or opens up the opposition's defence. He's simply a poor man's David Batty. Passing the ball sideways or backwards! Even his tackling is poor with most of them completely mis-timed giving rise to free kicks and yellow cards. Surely there's a Robert Lee, Peter Beardsley or Phillipe Albert out there somewhere. Although if there was our management team would fail to spot them!
Ken Brown.
