Everybody's Talkin' - 5/Feb/10

Your Letters

Dear tf,
Living abroad I'm in the fortunate position of not having meaningless tabloid garbage shoved in my face all day but from what I can see on the internet this John Terry story is being put across as massive news. Who gives a fuck?
Fair enough, the papers are going to print this, sadly because people are interested. But all of this about whether he should 'be stripped of captaincy' is absolute wank and another example of the media trying to drive events rather than just report what's happening. What fucking difference does it making if Terry pokes Wayne Bridge's bird (who probably fancied a change from someone who dribbles when they talk)? Doesn't make any difference at all to him as a footballer or captain, as if the likes of Rooney and Ashley Cole would only listen to someone of Gandhi-esque morals.

Funny how the papers are trying to bring him down as much as possible, a few months ahead of the World Cup. I don't think many other nations would salivate so much at the prospect of knocking down a captain, and claim the moral highground whilst proliferating absolute lies and smutty tittle-tattle. No doubt the same papers will be claiming they are 'England's No. 1 fan' in the summer.

What I find most pathetic about this is the way people buy in to it. Apparently the Hull fans (the same who showed themselves to be a classless mass at SJP last season in the wake of Keegan's exit) booed Terry, 'Boo John, shame on you'. It's a clear example of people being told how they should feel by the media and just accepting it like a spoon-fed bairn. Saps. Could you imagine fans back in the day booing Best or Frank Worthington for getting ball deep every night. Of course not, because footballers don't have to be role models and it shows a lack of depth in society if they are projected as such (alongside glamour models, reality TV stars etc...) I'd question the morals of the Hull fans doing it too. Statistics show that 80% of them would smash some rank barmaid if they had a chance or have given their wife a dig at some point.*

*Not true

Dear tf,

Guys, as a Chelsea fan, I have to say that's one of the sanest pieces I've read on the whole sorry affair. More power to your elbows.

Ed: "Guys?" Hey. we're cool man!
