Your Letters
Dear tf,

A superb editorial. One issue I have though is this: why would you bring Nicky Butt or Alan Smith back into the team? Yes we were at home and it was a cracking atmosphere and all that, but fuck me, we just won 5-1 and could have had more. The lowest moment of my supporting this club came at Pride Park when Kenny Miller swung his right foot and produced the only great goal of his entire career. Our performance that night - particularly that of Ameobi - was absolutely twatful. Insipid, devoid of any creativity and spark, and it saw us put to the sword by a team on their way to taking 4 points out of 6 from us despite their piss poor season.
Basically the more we have the ball, the less they will. And teams in this division are not up to dominating possession and scoring a hatful anyway. They will try to pin you in their final third and hope something breaks for them, albeit a set play or a cross which is half cleared and finished. For me, the more athletic and pacy playerswe have in our line up suits us even more away from home. At home teams sit back but away from home teams attack and try to get on the front foot. So why not take the lead from Man Utd against Arsenal and play on the counter attack. Let's face it, a team with Nicky Butt or Alan Smith will not play on the counter. They will slow the game down, pass it 10 yards sideways, and slowly squeeze up without offering any attacking endeavor whatsoever. I will be fuming if we go there and get a draw by 'keeping things tight'. Go and win. End of. If we get promoted there will be plenty of opportunity to play a midfield 5 away from home and camp out in front of goal. In this league, top of the table, go and win. And win well.
So we need to play the same team, and tell them to go and play the same way, and go and win 3-0 by getting at them. Did Robson change the team when we went and scored 4 at Leeds to go top of the table or when we won 3-1 at Highbury to end the London jinx? Did he bollocks. He played a team that could win the game, irrespective of where the match was being played.
Danny Guthrie is massive for us in my opinion. He gets his foot on the ball and moves it quickly with purpose, playing forward where possible. A natural, passing central midfield player, he will feed our two best attacking options: Routledge and Gutierrez (who by the way was unreal on Friday night, proving that he can do the business with or without Enrique playing). When you have Andy Carroll in there, this is massive, as he will score goals with good delivery from wide areas.
Regarding Ashley and the turmoil at other clubs such as Portsmouth, I do think that we need to be positive about his actions in January. A good window, and proof that you don't need to bring in a host of 30 - 33 year olds on 60k a week (good one Fat Sham) to represent good business. All of the players look good and to think our fist pumping captain and Sideshow Bob weren't playing as well, you have to be happy with the signings.
Oh and while I am can I also mention the unbelievable amount of press coverage on prize knobhead John Terry. What a fucking prick this bloke is, no doubt, but peel the story back to it's basic premise and it reads like this:-
- Footballer sleeps with female, cheating on wife in process (hardly a first)
- Footballer tries to prevent news of this reaching public domain (hardly a first)
- Footballer fails to get it banned and it comes out. Gets slaughtered for it in the national press (hardly a first)
- Footballer loses England captaincy. Regardless of the armband wearer, we will still either lose to Spain or get knocked out on penalties (certainly not a fucking first)
BORED. BORED. BORED.

Dear tf,
Please can I offer my sincere condolences to Antoine Sibierski and his family at this time. No hair, small fee, little ability but a BIG HEART. Undrerated, but never let us down unlike some of the other toe rags we've had. My thoughts,
Alec Stuart, Lancashire
