STAND UP FOR ST JAMES’

SJP

A PROMISE

This fanzine has no place in setting itself to organise and lead any protest against the bastardisation of the St James‘ Park name. We have no membership, committee or funds to do so.

However, we have been contacted by many, many readers who would like us to publicise efforts and protests against what is quite obviously something which cheapens our club and is an attack upon its heritage and traditions. Newcastle United plays at St James’ Park. St. James’ Park is our home. Sports Direct means nothing to us. Sports Direct means nothing to the City of Newcastle Upon Tyne, the history of Newcastle United other than its owner is a clueless cretin whose venality and incompetence presents the biggest threat to the future of NUFC in its long history.

I’ll be honest, some of the correspondence we’ve had from our readers has irritated. Perhaps we should be flattered. People out there believe true faith is at the heart of some sophisticated empire with an army of Mag ninjas to call upon every time a whopper like Ashley threatens to rip out the heart of Newcastle United. People might imagine we have all the time and resources in the world to dedicate to fighting this latest attack upon our club. And they are happy to sit back, do very little (or mostly nothing) and rely on others to articulate and organise their anger.

This imagined infrastructure on which to build resistance to Ashley’s gradual erosion of our football club just doesn’t exist at true faith. Its comical to think that it does. Believe it or not I’m not typing this rubbish up in a Dr No type jump-suit from an underground lair beneath Leazes Park accessed via an elaborate system of code-words and hi-tech gadgetry. Ursulla Andress at her peak is a thought though …. I’m actually typing this twaddle up in my t-shirt and under-crackers, bog-eyed with a gob like the bottom of a budgie’s cage and desperate for my porridge and orange juice before I leave the house for another full day at work. And that pretty much applies to everyone involved in giving you true faith either via the website or the fanzine. We’re amateurs, part-time gob-shites and we do true faith on the side.

The fanzine is delivered via the spare time efforts of a group of people who have exactly the same kind of commitments to work, school, University, college, families etc as you. We are by no means super-human activists who can pull off all manner of sophisticated protests at the flick of a switch. There are a few who have the bearing of Bond villains, mind.

If there is going to be a big statement of protest at Ashley’s attempts to piss all over the history of Newcastle United, then it will have to come from you reading this. You can count on us to be there with you but well, we do actually need you to be there with us and others.

We’ve been told there will be a protest outside of the Milburn Entrance both before and after the match on Saturday. I’d guess that might to start to build from around 1:30pm. But that’s just what we’ve been told. We’re not the organisers.

We’ve been told many supporters wish to stand up for the first ten minutes of the match on Saturday in protest at the denigration of the St James’ Park name. This demonstration has been done before in the Save Our Seats campaign. It didn’t unduly affect the team and we won that game. The support to the team, the lads in B&W shirts remains solid and unremitting. If that’s to work it will need you to explain to others what its about and encourage them to join in. We don’t have universal coverage of everyone that goes to games.

We are more than happy to publicise these protests. We hope they are done with dignity and inside the law. It would play into Ashley’s hands were they to escalate into something else. He might have no class but we know we possess plenty.

The happy few (ha-ha) who put this fanzine out are probably out on a limb publicising this stuff. But. We aren’t the organisers. We can’t tell you when and where to turn up, how to behave etc. WE ARE NOT IN CHARGE!

We do know that the negative publicity generated about protest at Ashley’s attempts to smear shit all over Newcastle United has rattled him. That is why they are coming out with the crap Llambias has been spouting these last few days and it changes by the hour. I honestly believe they don’t know what they are doing. I honestly believe WE CAN WIN. If we push now and continue doing so.

The publicity generated from your protests will be a warning shot to any corporation thinking about fucking about with the name St James’ Park. This Sports Direct garbage is simply a pitiful attempt to show it can be done and to try and out-flank the protests coming Ashley’s way. He’s hardly Field-Marshal Rommel is he?

If supporters do demonstrate in big numbers on Saturday and vocalise their resistance to bastardising the St James’ Park name it will send a message around the world that sullying the name of our home just isn’t in their interests. It just isn’t worth paying for the privilege of getting to the centre of a Geordie shit-storm. Advertising and sponsorship is supposed to be good for business - not this way and not with Mike Ashley.

Any resistance to the denigration of our home can’t end on Saturday and as Ashley’s regime leaks like a sieve and information on what they are up to isn’t difficult to come by - even for half-baked gob-shites like us - we will be straight at those companies we hear are thinking about any cockneywanker@St. James‘ Park nonsense - hopefully with you as a pack behind us and attempt to convince those people that screwing our traditions, our city, our heritage just isn’t good for business.

We’ll support you as above but it really is up to you. If you fail, we fail, Newcastle United fails and Ashley wins. Its up to you.

Keep On, Keepin’ On …

(send this to anyone you think might need to see it)
