Launch Details
From Newcastle United Supporters Trust:
"We are taking this opportunity to bring you up to date with all things Trust. If you didn’t know, we are formally launching NUST at Newcastle Civic Centre with a press conference and unveiling ‘More than a Trust’ – a new deal for fans to the waiting world.
As members you’ve had access to the document through the members’ area and many of you have commented on our shared values and aims, especially our local achievers match tickets scheme which will celebrate all that’s good in our communities. Watch out on the website for your way to nominate a local achiever who could then get to watch the team play live.
You can now access the document on our website and we hope you will let us know your thoughts and suggestions.
The aim of the Trust, the main overriding aim, is to make sure the fans voice is never ignored again and the way to do this is to make sure that we’re at the top table and to achieve that we have to buy in, literally to the aim. The Trust is now a major player and if you read the Evening Chronicle on Saturday you will see that things are moving on that front.
We are coming together with local companies and investors to support the idea that fans can own a stake in the club through the SIPP brokers. They have provided a way that fans and businesses alike can buy into the club. Moves have already started independently of the Trust to raise the capital and we’re backing the ‘YES WE CAN’ campaign; which is a reference to Derek Llambias, who when asked “could the fans own a stake in the club”, answered “NO”. We say “We can” and we say “Why not?” We’ve had plenty of false dawns, hopes raised and dashed and it’s time we looked to ourselves for the solutions to the long standing problems at the club.
The club is doing well at the moment but that’s not down to the hierarchy, it’s down to the players, the fans and hard work.
We have a chance, and if you read the Chronicle you will see the type of money pledged so far is over £20m and rising. That’s without mobilising the fans, businesses and the City for a real and lasting change. Many of you filled in our recent survey and the support for the ‘fans buy in’ idea is overwhelming. We intend to open up new ways for fans to buy in to the club through the Trust itself, and anyone who joins now can be assured that some of their membership will go towards buying a stake in the club. You can also donate on the website towards our pledge targets.
Next week is a big week in the history of the Trust, from its first faltering steps to a group with a mission – remember we’re ‘fans in’ and now we have a chance to make that a reality.
Watch the website for the latest news but this is the real deal and it’s our time now.
All Together Now
The Trust".
