Like many, Liz has been personally touched by Cancer. She lost her sister Rebecca to Bowel Cancer. That must be hard to take. Losing a sibling.
For Liz, the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation is personal. Actually, I think for everyone, the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation is personal. Not because every one of us knew SBR (though many did) but because many of us know someone who has been lost to the devastating disease of Cancer.
The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation exists to support research and trials here in the North East to find new ways to treat and beat Cancer. Its work, is without being melodramatic, about life and death.
Now Liz is about to go huffing and puffing from the Central Motorway in Newcastle over the Tyne Bridge and down to South Shields in the Great North Run with thousands of others, doubtless raising money for various charities and good luck to them all.
We are going to make Liz our No.1 cause for the Great North Run. We haven’t got loads of money so we’ll be making a modest donation. I’ll probably annoy her by giving her cash in the boozer before the match but not all of you can do that.
Liz hasn’t asked us to do this, she might be miffed that we have and I’ll get told off by her for some breach in protocol or other. But whey …
If you can spare some loose change, sponsor Liz doing the Great North Run for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. Everybody wins.
Liz has a target of £100 to reach. She currently has £25. I’d like to think we could smash that to pieces. Howay lads and Lasses.
