1. This Sat 27 July: March against the Bedroom Tax


The north-east march and rally against the Bedroom Tax will assemble 2pm outside Newcastle Civic Centre.


The march and rally is being organised to demand:


– The immediate abolition of the Bedroom Tax.
– Hands off Disability Living Allowance and the Independent Living Fund.
– Councils and other landlords must not evict tenants in arrears due to the Bedroom Tax.

2. Support the Metro Cleaners strike against poverty pay


On Thursday 25 July, the Tyne and Wear metro cleaners will mark the end of their two-week strike against poverty pay with a mass protest outside the Tyne and Wear integrated Transport Authority meeting, 9.30am, Civic Centre, Newcastle – all supporters welcome.  For the full story please see here:

The North East People’s Assembly will take place at Northern Stage, Newcastle on Saturday 14 September, starting at 10am.  The all-day event will feature talks, arts, workshops and plenty of discussion and networking.  It will play a key role in building, coordinating and invigorating the fight-back against the cuts in the North East and beyond.


Over 400 people from a broad range of backgrounds and organisations are expected to attend.  For the latest details and to book seats please visit:
Speakers include writer and commentator Owen Jones and Northern TUC regional secretary Beth Farhat.

The North East People’s Assembly is part of the national People’s Assembly movement, building on the hugely successful convention in Westminster in June.


Tickets for the whole day are just £6, with a discounted rate of £3 for the unwaged and low-waged.

4. Creating local Peoples Assemblies in the north east


We are now creating local Peoples Assemblies within the North East to run alongside the Regional and National movements, so we are now asking everyone to fill in a simple form, confirming which area of the North East they live so we can organize meetings in your area.
