As you know from time to time when Newcastle United isn’t in action and setting off our collective ulcer complaints, we like to get a flannel across our faces and step into the wonderful world of the North East’s non-league scene. We don’t pretend we have any kind of expertise with our local non-league scene or that we are any sort of grassroots devotees. We aren’t. We’re Newcastle United supporters.

However, we do like to dip a toe into non-league waters and whenever we meet the people who are running our local clubsNorthShieldsUltras we’ve never been failed to have been impressed by the warmth of their welcome or their enthusiasm for their great clubs. From Ashington to Horden, Blyth to Heaton Stann to Gateshead and Whitley Bay we’ve had some great days out and invariably come away with a good, warm feeling about the experience of our non-league scene.

This latest international break means we’ll be without Newcastle United to ruin the weekend so we are heading to that wonderful Geordie town at the mouth of the Tyne – no less than North Shields FC, the FA Vase Winners and doyens of Northern League Division 1. The Robins are in action against that great County Durham side Consett Town at “The Morgue” and we’ve no doubt we’ll see a great contest between two good sides.

North Shields have a fantastic following with a support that is a credit to them and their town. It will be a privilege to meet some of them and we hope to have a bit crack with some of their famous Ultras before and after the match.

We’ll be covering the day for the next issue of true faith and we promise we’ve got a great itinerary coming together, so there should be a fantastic feature in the next issue of your fanzine (TF123).

So, if you are at something of a loose end this Saturday, you could do a lot worse than get the rattler down to North Shields and take in a great match amongst top people at The Morgue.

You know you want to.

This is the new issue of true faith (TF122) covering November / December 2015. It is available in digital format and it is absolutely FREE. It is over 90 pages of some of the best fanzine writing in the country. We are pretty confident that this fanzine is the most widely read fans publication in the country. Since 1999 true faith has been part of the Newcastle United furniture and we have been providing the alternative view on life at our club and the world around it for all that time.

More than 50% of our readers have accessed this fanzine via smart-phones and tablets (plus i-pads). But it is perfectly fine on any device you care to mention i.e. laptops and PCs.

Just click on it to get access. We really hope you enjoy it.

Fans could pop along tonight for Ashington v Newcastle U21s- The Colliers are a club with great traditions, fantastic crack and the new stand is very impressive. Plus England international (cricketer) Steve Harmison is the manager! Our non-league scene in the North-East is something we should all be proud of.
