NEWS FROM NOWHERE – Newcastle Benfield v Penrith, Sam Smiths Park, FA Vase, KO: 3pm.

There is no Newcastle United this weekend but plenty quality non-league football for us to get along to with a few mates, enjoy a bit crack, couple of pints and support a local team.

Northern League sides have enjoyed some phenomenal success in the FA Vase over the last few years and that trophy has almost become a permanent fixture in our region with it currently residing at Morpeth Town after stints at Dunston, Whitley Bay, North Shields et al.

Hopefully it will be another one of our teams that makes the journey under the arch in May and brings it home.

This Saturday Newcastle Benfield take on Penrith in the FA Vase and we’ve picked that game out as one some might want to consider having a trip to . I’m sure everyone at Benfield will make newcomers welcome and the extra gate-money helps as well. Don’t forget to buy a pie, a pint and a programme to put some money into that club’s coffers.

However, if you have ideas about other games this weekend you think should be plugged. Please do so in the comments boxes below.

Nice that you’ve given Benfield a plug on here. I go and watch them whenever it doesn’t clash with NUFC and they’re a smashing little club. Not sure if they’ll be able to do it for Saturdays game with it being a Vase match but for league games they offer Newcastle fans a £2 discount at the gate on production of their NUFC season ticket or a ticket stub from an NUFC away game this season.

A top tip would also be to visit the clubhouse. Some canny NUFC memorabilia on the walls including a brilliant mural of loads of ex managers (Keegan, Robson, Cox etc) sat round the dinner table. Cheap beer as well is an added bonus!

They’d really appreciate you support for anyone at a loose end on Saturday and wanting to take a game in.
