Once again there is no Newcastle United this Saturday as our game with West Ham has been moved to the Monday night for the benefit of the SKY cameras.
But do not despair gentle reader. There is a great opportunity to get out of the house and within the city boundaries of Newcastle Upon Tyne watch a team resplendent in Black & White stripes perform for a Geordie crowd. Ladies and gentlemen I give you Heaton Stannington FC v Billingham Synthonia in the very attractive fixture from the Northern League Division 2.
There is a great club house at Stann and the punters are an unaffected bunch of proper football people who enjoy the simple pleasures of their team doing the best on a Saturday afternoon without having their eyes pulled out at the turnstile or feeling as though they are part of some big empty hype.
Of course The Stann is not everyone’s favoured non-league team of choice. Last week we featured the excellent Blyth Spartans and we of course given plenty of drum rolls for Gateshead FC in the past and North Shields FC is a fantastic club with a great following who go to games determined to enjoy themselves and seem to remember why we all fell in love with football in the first instance.
So, if you fancy having a look at the northern League scene this weekend, just click here
If you take in the Stann game have a great time and don’t forget to buy a pie, a pint, a programme and whatever else is on offer. But you might do that wherever you go.
All the best.
