NEWCASTLE UNITED SUPPORTERS TRUST – Public Meeting – 1st May Mining Institute, Newcastle , 7.30pm

The Newcastle United Supporters’ Trust is holding a public meeting to discuss Mike

Neville HallAshley’s planned sale of the lease on land adjacent to the Gallowgate End at St James’ Park. We are concerned that future development of this land, potentially unsympathetic to the future expansion of St James’ Park may act to inhibit the future growth under future ownership arrangements. The Trust board has been pursuing a number of courses of action and would welcome the opportunity to share this information and take questions regarding the sale of the lease of the land from Trust members and other supporters who may wish to attend.

So far the Trust has made a Freedom of Information Act application to discover the identity of potential developers in order to open dialogue and explain our position.

Unfortunately, Mike Ashley’s employees at Newcastle United have so far declined to answer any of the media’s questions on the subject so we are unable to outline any safe-guards the club has put in place to safe-guard the club’s future growth potential and indeed the destination and use of any monies raised from the sale of a club asset. Officials at United working for Mike Ashley have also failed to notify the land-owners, NEXUS of their intentions also.

As an associated matter, the Trust is in the process of applying to have St James’ Park registered as an Asset of Community Value and Kevin Rye of Supporters Direct will attend as a guest speaker.

The Trust  also makes an invitation to those supporters with expertise in Planning to join a working group to support the Trust to develop its position regarding future development.

The meeting will take place on Thursday 1st May in The Lecture Room of the Mining Institute, Neville Hall, Westgate Road, Newcastle , NE1 1SE (near the Central Station) and will commence at 7.30pm and finish no later than 9.00pm

It would be great to see you there.

Great stuff lads. can’t make that meeting as working away but glad its happening.

Think registering st james’ park as a asset of community value is a cracking idea and the Liverpool lads succeeded in doing that with their lot a few years ago, i’m sure Newcastle City Council would be sympathetic to it.

I was wondering if anyone has thought about the planning objections process? There is a lot of details around what constitutes a successful objection to planning permission and some are directly related to damage to the community.

I don;t think anyone can deny how integral nufc is to the community of Newcastle and i think damaging its future growth and ambition through building on that land could be objected to very strongly.

If this is made public prior to any sale and we make clear our intention, as fans, to register thousands of planning objections on that basis, it may well put anyone off buying it in the first place. I’m sure the council could make some friendly noises as well.

    Hope all goes well
