Coverage
for the dates
4th - 10th September 2006
Another
inglorious week both on and off the pitch! The saddest thing is
it’s not surprising any more. Nothing is. We’ve had our fair share
of disappointments and dirty laundry aired in public and from fake
sheiks to faulty forms we suffer it all in the name of the black and
white cause. I’m beginning to doubt my own sanity. Any regular
readers of this shite will have probably made their own minds up
ages ago.
A dissection of the incomings to
SJP was how the week began. Not a lot about Sibierski, probably
because there’s not much to say about someone arriving from the
wilderness of Man City’s reserves but plenty about ‘Seppe Rossi.
Quotes that have him keen to stay if all goes well (Article)

and keen to make an impact (Article)
suggest he has been well groomed in how to handle the media, as
you’d expect of any young prospect from Man U, but as ever I’ll only
be happy once I see something of note on the pitch, like when we get
this stuff off Shola. Quotes attributed to Wayne “Are you calling
my girlfriend fat?” Rooney also trotted out about his finishing
ability (Article)

seem to serve only as some sort of attempt at appeasement as we
wonder where the goals are coming from.
Meanwhile Olivier Bernard has
been welcomed back by former left back John Beresford (Article).
His comment that “for me we should never have allowed Bernard to
leave for Southampton” is a curious one, especially as he was the
one who turned down a significant contract offer. One of my more
usually reliable sources (not yer usual man in the pub if you know
what I mean) has suggested that this was one of £19K a week. I
wonder what he ended up on at Southampton, or Rangers, or what he is
on now? His decision and it’s up to him to back up the new found
loyalty (Article)

with performances. Once he’s fit of course (Article).
It’s a win/win situation for me, either he comes back and displaces
the often disinterested Babayaro or his challenge focuses Babayaro
into a consistent level of performance. I still would have
preferred Wayne Bridge mind you.
Events away from the pitch then
took over. Michael Owen finally had is last operation in the US and
it has been declared a “success” (Article)

and Glenn Roeder “looking forward to the day I can write his name on
the team sheet.” If he lasts that long one would say rather
cynically. Owen left with a goal “pledge” (Article)

and the suggestion that it was the fact that he wasn’t fully
recovered from his foot injury that led to his knee problem (Article).
Funny how England aren’t getting any flak for that. Had it been the
other way round there would have been hell on.
Word reached the outside world
rather quietly that Tommy Craig has left the club following his
non-appearance at a reserve fixture through the week. (Article)
Given his service over the years he has left very quietly and
without much comment from either the man himself or the club.
Curious.
Then came news that we had been
unsuccessful in our agents’ payments/VAT tribunal case that has been
ongoing for a number of months now. Not only that, as we yet again
are involved in a public humiliation session, but the tribunal judge
is quoted as saying that
'None
of the documents generated by Newcastle can be relied upon as being
true'. Surprising? Nah not really, disappointing? Oh aye and then
some. What I find even more unusual is that only The Guardian and
the ever-excellent David Conn have seemed vaguely interested in this

none of the other major newspapers touching it at all (not even
Mihir Bose at the Telegraph who usually has his finger on the pulse
of sports business) and absolutely nowt at all from the locals. I
wonder at whose suggestion. What a mess and it doesn’t matter that
we’re not the only ones doing it. Once again it is NUFC who is
tarnished with this stain and it is NUFC who will forever be
associated with the resulting ruling.
Not that it will ever stop our
name being peddled around by players and agents alike in the hope
they can drag a few more bob out of some poor fecker. Diego Tristan
being the latest shite hawk. (Article)

So a great mood to go into the
build up to the Fulham game. Not that the manager wants any bad
vibes around like. (Article)
No doom or gloom here (Article)
(Article)!
If you say it often enough perhaps we’ll start to believe it. The
only way to clear the air is for us to see something positive on the
pitch.
Want to know why we’re not
happy. Look at what is happening in front of your own eyes.
Gifting 3 points to Fulham with a disgraceful performance where once
again we mastermind our own problems from the same old places and
the usual suspects. (Article)

With Scott Parker putting in another man of the match display the
press are right in saying he didn’t deserve that (Article)

We’re back to being a one-man team again and look like we’re playing
in a way where we still think Shearer is on the pitch. Meanwhile
the question as to whether the £15m spent on Duff and Martins (Article)
would
have been better distributed throughout the side is a good one.
Especially when you hear the manager, who could have done something
more about the squad size as the transfer window was closing imho,
fretting over the toll two games a week will have on the squad (Article).
Never mind Kieron Dyer will be
back soon (Article)
(Article).
Oh joy, here we go again…
