Alan
- we may not have won owt since you signed for us, but you brought
your passion, dignity, pride and most of all goals to us and for
that we will for ever be so lucky to have seen you play for the toon.
Good luck with your retirement, and hopefully we'll look forward to
seeing ya in that dug out in the next few years getting us our
trophy as the boss! Cheers Al
Rich
Shearer for president.
Dinez, Serbia
Shearer has stuck by Newcastle United when many players of his
quality would have turned and walked away. He lead the team from the
front for 10 great years and in my opnion is simply irreplacable as
a player. He is a fantastic footballer, a winner and true working
class hero. He will be talked about for years to come as the
greatest ever player to wear a black and white shirt.
Mark (Bristol, originally of Fenham, Newcastle)
Alan, Thank you for everything you have done for Newcastle UTD.
You have shown such loyalty and commitment to the team we adore for
so many years. You will always be remembered as a true hero! Your a
gentleman and a Legend! Thank you for bringing the good times back
to ST James Park and a huge well done for beating Jackie Milburn's
record.
Jack Nicholls
The best professional ever to wear the black & white shirt. He
could cross it, head it, great first touch, strong as an ox mentally
as well as physically and the best finisher bar none in Premier
League history. The players he played with loved him. And he was
from Newcastle Upon Tyne. What more could you ask for?
Bruce Halliday, Australia.
I dont think there are words to describe the mans impact on the
club. The greatest Newcastle player of all time. Thanks for the
memories, you will be sorely missed.
Aaron Dall'Acqua, Sydney Australia
THE MAN IS GOD,
DAVID - WASHINGTON
For 10 years of dedication to our as his cause, for 10 years of
loyalty and 10 years of unforgettable goals and performances....I
say cheers Alan. My greatest memory of him has to be the 4-3 win
over Man U in 2001. The way in which he faced up to Keane spoke of
his pride and determination, as if he was saying to Keane, 100%
commitment to our just and righteous cause. We won't realise what
we're losing until he's not there any more. A one off. Thank You!
Michael Martin
Alan, Not only are you are without question the greatest striker
to have ever played for Newcastle United, you are a genuine geordie
legend, and by all accounts a top bloke, an awful taste in
music...but I suppose you need at least one flaw!
My
grandad used to tell me about the great Jackie Milburn, my dad used
to tell me about Supermac, well I saw Shearer play...It has been a
privilege and an honour, Thanks for the memories Al.
Paul J
CHEERS BIG AL. YOUR AN ABSOLUTE LEGEND!!
STEVE, LONGBENTON
Alan
Shearer is the greatest Centre Forward of his generation. It's sad
to say this, but it will be a long time before we see the likes of
him in a Black and White shirt again. Alan, thanks for the memories.
Brian, Ipswich
WELL DONE BIG AL! YOUR AN ABSOLUTE LEGEND!
ADAM - SEATON DELVAL
SHEARER IS GOD! WHAT A LEGEND! NOBODY WILL EVER REPLACE BIG AL.
P.S THANKS FOR SIGNING ME TOP!
G BEVAN, WEST ALLOTMENT
I was in Barbados on holiday when he signed. I told a
disbelieving David Davies (On a break with his family there) Then
every Geordie in the place had an impromptu party with loads of
singing and boozles. I was present when he scored his first goal v
Wimbledon and I was interloping in Mackem corporate hospitality when
he laced in his final one. All change for next season, and that
might be a good thing but I feel proud to have lived through the
Shearer era....
Nick Clark, Gosforth.
I'll never forget the first time I saw the guy in the black &
white stripes and I sure as hell won't forget the last (4-1! such a
fitting way to finish). Shearer's the embodiment of what Newcastle
United means, hopefully it won't be too long before we see his like
again.
Tom Barker, Lincs
Just about the only professional footballer of this generation
who followed through on a professed love for his home town club.
Instead of coming here when his career was finished like Keane to
Celtic, he came here when he was one of the best forwards in the
world. Sorry the club have let you down over the last ten years and
you weren't able to lift the trophies you deserve. Mebs you can
pool resources with Ant and Dec and buy out Fat Fred and Douglas
Hall!! Cheers for everything!!
Pete, Edinburgh
The best number 9 ever and a Geordie... sez it all.
People can talk about Henry, Et'oo, shevchenko or Van Nistlerooy and
say they are the best strikers about. However none of them have had
to endure as many serious injuries as Shearer and adapt their style
of game to still be able to compete and score at the highest level.
Also none of them have had to put up with mediocre team-mates, some
terrible management or chairmanship that newcastle united has had
during shearers time at the club.
Shearer will always be remembered as a complete centre forward, who
has endured the test of time and has done this acting like a true
gentleman. A true Geordie who makes me feel even more proud to call
myself a geordie.
Micky - a Geordie in Edinburgh
Massive,
massive, massive thanks to the Gosforth Lion. I'll always remember
the day he signed 10 years ago, when I was 6 or 7. Since then he's
been my major childhood idol and the one person I've always looked
up to and admired. Always close to crying when I was at a game and
I still do that, though his testimonial will open the flood gates.
Thank you so much for 10 years display of skill, power and
leadership!
Joicey, Blakelaw
Mr Shearer, In an era where the term 'legend' is used so freely
(century fm anyone???), I would like to thank you for fulfilling and
maintaining the actual definition of the word and giving us some
magical moments along the way.
The home debut goal; your part in man utd 5-0; hatrick v leicester;
all 3 old trafford semi final goals; 5 v sheff wed!!!; screamers at
home v everton and then chelsea; 2 goals on an unforgettable night
in milan; record breaking pompey game and then finishing it all off
in style in front of the SMB. Just a snippet of ten years where your
loyalty matched that witnessed on the terraces. There never will be
an epitaph. Alan Shearer Lives Forever. From the heart, I thank you
Marc Corby, South Shields
We'll never have another striker good enough for a long time.
Legend
Alan Shearer is a legend and we have been lucky enough to see him
for 10 years.
Robert Bowen, Carlisle
A unique individual in this day and age. Whilst other players
are busying themselves with the relentless pursuit of pounds and
pence, Alan has remained in the hallowed number nine shirt for his
home team. Alan Shearer will be forever etched in every Geordie's
conscience, in the same way Wor Jackie was in our fathers. A fine
example of loyalty, and most of all, the ultimate professional. With
serious injuries bravely overcame, and left behind, Alan gave
everything possible in every match, as he freely admits, if he was
not playing he would be beside all of us in the stands. My abiding
memory is that of him standing on one leg, attempting a tackle on a
Sunderland player on his way off the pitch in his last match. A
warrior to the end, and a legend forever.
Stephen Cooper, Sofia, Bulgaria.
Certainly the best England player of the past 20 years but one
who hasn't cut it for 3. For much of his time at Newcastle he lived
of Bellamy, but did not have the brains to recognise it. He has been
a negative influence on the club for some time and continues to be
so. The stupidity of announcing that he will be manager one day, and
building a bar at the ground whilst he is still a player (presumably
he agreed to this) defies belief. The difference between Arsenal's
treatment of Ian Wright and Newcastle's treatment of Alan Shearer
tells its own story; they know what is good for the club and that is
why they are successful.
Steve, London
thanks for 10 great years and the fabulous memories and goals
alan god bless you and good luck in everything you do for the future
kec croft, hetton
Thanks for everything LION. Will never forget the way you
sacrificed trophies in exchange for the love of your hometown club.
Your loyalty, passion, aggression, sheer bloody-mindedness, and
above all, world-class pedigree, is something that only folk
supporting this club will understand, and the rest of the
footballing world can only admire. You are genius, and I have no
doubt there will never be anyone quite like you, plays in our famous
colours again. God bless you bonnie lad.
Shaun Mac, FENHAM, Newcastle.
Hero,
talisman, legend, idol. Words cannot describe the man himself. It
was a privilege to have seen you play Alan. Truly professional and
gracious off the pitch, a lion on it. Fitting that his last action
in a black and white shirt was to be lying in agony on the ground,
trying to win the ball from an opponent. Thanks for 10 great years
Big Al.... I have the feeling we haven't see the last of you.
Andrew Wright, Whickham
Thanks Alan! You came home, stayed home, and scored the goals!
Lets hope the silverware you did not pick up as a Newcastle player
can be picked up sometime in the future as a Newcastle manager! Good
Luck & Thanks
Mark Slassor, Newcastle
What more can be said about the great man? He is an absolute
legend and will be remembered in generations to come as the greatest
goalscorer our club has ever had. Not only that but he's one of us.
Cheers for the memories Alan!
Simply a legend. There was nothing better than seeing the joy on his
face when he scored. All you could ask for as a geordie number nine.
Mark Oselton, Gateshead
It doesn't matter that he didn't win trophies, he won something
far more worthy: the love, respect and admiration of the geordie
nation. Thanks for the superb memories Alan.
Cam, Preston
Thanks for the memories Alan. The goals, commitment and passion
speak for themselves but my favourite memory was him standing poker
faced as Keane tried to attack him and made a complete arse of
himself, absolutely priceless. Simply the BEST
Legend!! Enough said! Cant wait untill Thursday! Thanks for the
memories Al, hopefully there will be more to come after your 'sabatical'
year out or 2!!
Chris Convery
Thanks for everything in particular for packing England in to
extend your career with us, that was crucial to our good times under
Bobby. If you can find time away from dishing out Ferreo roche in
your club amassador role I've got a 5 a side team which would
appreciate an experienced head who would chip in with the odd goal.
Adam
I'm only 19 and now stuck in Birmingham for the foreseeable
future but i luckily got back up for the Portsmouth game and
witnessed history, real history. I feel privileged to have been
around in the same era as shearer as a player and the mans
integrity, loyalty to newcastle and goalscoring achievements are
remarkable in the truest sense of the word - i was at the everton (h)a
few years back 4 the turnaround from 1-0 down in the last ten mins
an shearers volley still gives me goosebumps, i've got them now just
remembering it. CHEERS
oli
theres just to much to say about alan shearer so i'll keep it
short. SHEARER = LEGEND
Thanks for all the memories Alan, but wish you'd moved on 2 years
ago and Bellamy had stayed, we'd have progressed that way.
So
much has been said about shearer, he was simply the greatest english
centre forward of his generation the fact he played at Newcastle for
10 years makes me proud the fact he is a geordie makes me even
prouder. Quite simply a legend of our time, thanks for the goals
and the highs.
Gary, Cramlington
Sir Alan Shearer, Big Al, the sheet metal worker's son from
Gosforth. Since that day back in 1996, when the news all Toon fans
had dreamed about broke, Shearer has been everything, and more, we
ever hoped he would be. One of our own came home. Pride and
passion and a distant dream put over the guarantee of titles at Old
Trafford. We will always be grateful to you Alan.
You may not have won a trophy but you won something more valuable
than that - the adulation of your own people. You gave us ten years
of magic, joy, and memories no Toon fan will ever forget. So what
if the plastic mancs don't get it. For every boo you got at Old
trafford you got a thousand cheers at St James'. Enjoy your time
off - you'll be back.
Adam, Durham
nothing u can say about the man that hasnt been said b4 -- at
the time, Al arrived as the worlds most expensive (and best striker)
and for a long time since we've had what we paid for!
thanks for coming home Al!
ray, (not mackem country) durham
Top man, Top player, Top geordie!
Richie, Ryton
The stirring tribute from the United faithful against WBA on the
22nd of april says it all...midway into the second half, game firmly
in Newcastle's favour, then 'SHEAREEEEER' rings out in the SJH
stand, and it just grew and the stadium rose as one. Alan Shearer,
the only man ive ever known of to lift a stadium, when he isn't even
playing...he's not just a striker, or JUST a strong centre forward,
he's even MORE than a talisman...he's a god...no scratch
that....shearer IS god, as 52,000+ geordies would agree with 110%.
10 years of hard graft for the club he loves, he's rewarded with
immortality for life and beyond. (and who could blame the WBA fans
who rose with the chants of shearer!!) Thank you alan! See u in the
dugout sometime soon
steve, london
simply the best cant say owt else but thanks al
vin in jarra
Thanks for the memories, move on with grace.
Thankyou for all you have done to give us toon fans some pride.
alex, beamish.
You
are a legand, you have given your talented career to this club,
people say that you have won no silverware with us, but when you
come back as a manger, I know you will take us to victory in a major
tournemet, FACT!! Thankyou for everything!!
Lewis, Scotland
My most outstanding Shearer moment was a game against Liverpool
at SJP on New Years Day in 2003. It was the first time I had been to
SJP since the ground was improved to 52,000 a capacity. Newcastle
took a slender, yet deserved 1-0 lead into the final seconds.
Shearer had made little impact throughout the game. But in the dying
minutes chased a long hopeful ball into the right channel. The ball
was never allowed to leave that corner. Shearer, using his strength
and persistence never let a Liverpool player get possession of the
ball. With the clock running down, and Liverpool’s players getting
frustrated he won a corner, throw in and a free kick and single
handedly saw the game out for a 1-0 win. An uninspiring game, but a
result clinched by an inspiring captain. Arguably the best player to
have ever lived.
Gav Summers - County Durham
At only 23 i was never really privileged to see the other great
number 9's of our magnificent club, to me shearer is the greatest
striker the premiership has even seen. Had those terrible injuries
never occurred who knows how many goals alan would have ended on.
Thank you for 10 great years there will never be another like you
you are a true local hero.
Shearer is a god. There's no two ways about it. Everything that
could be said has been said so all I offer is a huge amount of
thanks to Al for making me and the rest of us happy over the past
ten years. When a statue of Shearer is unvailed we should all break
the second commandment and worship at who really is god.
Tom, Northumberland.
Alan Shearer - THE Black & White Legend!!!!! What more can you say!
Simon, Durham
Thank you Alan, thank you so much for what your brought to every
single heart on tyneside. You got everyone talking about Newcastle
United again, and they have not stopped since!. Through you every
single geordie 'lived the dream'. Thank you for that, thank you for
daring us to dream. All the best and a lifetime of happiness
Regards Amit Shabilla, Gosforth
What more can you say about Big Al - will be sorely missed in
the number 9 shirt - whoever replaces him. Will we ever see the
likes again - turned down the certainty of trophies elsewhere to
wear the No 9 of his own club. A man of honour we will all remember
you as long as we live. - The main man
Geoff, Pegswood
Alan Shearer, a black & white lion from Gosforth. He fought and
shed blood for his team, his people. He believed in Newcastle
United. He gave us hope. We will never see his like again
Pete Heslop, London
It's hard for a simple Geordie lad, to express in words what this
man means, to me, to us, and to the chosen ones of the North East,
as a Gallowgate Ender, he is a legend, as a Geordie, he is an icon,
as a father, he is an inspiration. Long may the sun shine on you. A
true great, in every sense of the word. With a tear in my eye, and
pride in my heart.....Thank you Alan Shearer 9
Mickey, Durham.
i couldnt get a ticket for the testimonial so i watched it on the
telly. the whole thing brought tears to my eyes!! the Lion was so
humble, just like you hope and expect you would be yourself if ever
put in that position (we should be so lucky) all young players
should be made to take a 'Shearer test' before being handed pro
contracts. and if they fall foul of any of the many pitfalls that
are the scurge of our beautiful game eg hookers (Rooney) gambling
(Rooney again) or even mucking about with mobiles! (ahem) the money
they are fined should go to grass roots football. Alan Shearer is
everthing a hero should be. Thankyou.
Daniel
Wilson, Jarrow
The night Graham Fenton scored those late goals will live with me
forever. I was 14 and I cried. Lots. For that I hate Blackburn
Rovers, always will. However they let Shearer come home, so they
can't be all that bad. I met my Mum from work the day Al signed, we
stood together outside St James' in the rain and sang together.
That's the power he has, the ability to unite families, friends and
cities. Shearer put the unite in United.
Thx for the best 10 years of footy. Well done shearer for scoring
207 goals. U R a reel toon legend. U will b missed alot especially
by the Geordies. Ur testimonial was gr8. U came to a club hu loved u
very much. U came out 2 an outstandin ovation.
From shearers best fan and geordie girl stacey mcloughlin,
Wardley
You have given NUFC pride everytime you pulled on the shirt, thanks
for the memories. So long, but not goodbye............
