Issue 6 -Heart and Soul |
|
 |
A
recurrent theme in the magazine’s history has been the number of New
Order and Joy Division song titles that have been “borrowed.” From
the title downwards, we’re been doing it for years. Hence Warren
Barton‘s mug shot is accompanied by the phrase Heart And Soul
for an issue that hit the streets in early February 2000, setting a
trend of true faith’s arrival not always coinciding with home
matches. Nice to see a talented young ex-pat, then earning a crust
in faraway Bratislava, contributing a couple of articles, especially
the one on page 24 as it meant Bling Bling Sixty Clicks didn’t get
another soppy Valentine’s greeting from the Ed. |

Issue 5 - Good Feeling |

King
Al’s back on the cover for the arrival of Sheffield United in the FA
Cup Fourth round. Frankly this easy 4-1 tonking of The Blades was
merely a sideshow in a game characterized by poisonous and entirely
justified anti-board sentiment. This must have been the most
political issue of true faith yet. An interview with Jane
Duffy, the spokesperson for Save Our Seats, an argumentative
editorial asking the suits to have some decency and a double page
centre spread encouraging people to sign up with Save Our Seats,
whether they are affected or not. Also, page 24 again; this time
there’s a photo of Dyer with the strap line “There’s only two
Peter Beardsleys.” Ahem! |

Issue 4 - Millenium Mag? |
|
 |
Boxing Day 99 saw a hell of good match; a 2-2 with Liverpool,
whereby
Shearer’s opener was cancelled out by an Owen brace (one of them a
typically catastrophic Dabizas error), only for Duncan Disabled,
typically enough to be found gurning from the news stands in this
very publication, to grab a late point. Articles were to be found
bemoaning Boardroom Doublespeak and the Moscow Show Trial that was
the AGM, as well as a typically rambling account of a Euro Awayday
(Roma) that barely mentioned the football. Somewhat surprising,
given recent events, was the cartoon on page 24; “he’s black, he’s
white, he’s f***kin dynamite, Kieron Dyer!” Ahem! |
