Issue 12 - Waiting for the Great Leap Forward |
|
 |
Surprisingly, it had taken until December 2000 and the visit of
Bradford City for Nobby Solano to grace the jacket of the world’s
greatest football publication. There’s actually very little to be
said about the now sadly departed Peruvian; instead the board come
in for another tirade. By then, the Save Our Seats campaign
had been (legally if not morally) lost. It was time to move on to
the idea of a Shareholders’ or Supporters’ Trust. Four years on, the
pressing need for such an organisation is even greater, especially
when we remember the achievements of the Fans Liaison Committee, or
not. Shit atmosphere and persistent whingers got a slagging as well.
Not much changes, does it? |

Issue 11 - Carry on Regardless |
|
 |
In
the last 24 years, we’ve lost 3 games to The Mackems out of the 20
we’ve played and only one of those mattered. The 2-1 on November 18th
2000 really hurt; it still does. That hurt was ingrained in those
pages, as well as a determination never to let it happen again. And
it hasn’t! However, four and a bit years ago the wounds and sores
from that defeat were raw, weeping and open. An interview with Aaron
Hughes begins “how did you let that happen?” Oh yes, it hurt. It was
of minimal comfort we beat Liverpool 2-1 that day. |

Issue 10 - Up, Down Turnaround |
|
 |
The
old New Order / Joy Division obsession was made ever more clear with
the back cover being a pastiche of the sleeve of Unknown
Pleasures. Still, 25 years old though that record may be, it
gives me far more top quality memories than the now shameless and
discredited Didier Domi, whose face is plastered on the front, does.
Our indifferent start to the season (top in early September then
starting to slide) was a recurrent theme, as was astonishment at
Marcelino’s finger injury that had kept him out since August (this
issue came out on November 4th, when we beat Ipswich
2-1). Things were about to get a whole load worse though! |
