Issue 15 - Something better change |
|
 |
Unlike the previous season, we only managed to squeeze out seven
issues in 2000/2001 and the last one, carrying our Editor’s fetish
for Aaron Hughes on the front page, appeared for the last game. We
destroyed Villa 3-0; Gregory humiliated Ginola by hauling him off
before half time and Gary Speed and Ian Taylor were sent packing for
having a centre-circle barney. Not a bad way to end the season I
suppose, but of very little consolation considering we’d finished
bottom half for the fourth consecutive season and 11th
two years running. The strap line said it all “Something Better
Change,” which was entirely understandable, following the
infamous 1-1 non-performance versus Southampton that is generally
seen as the final nail in Wadsworth’s coffin. Apart from an upbeat
account of the Andy O’Brien game at SoS, there’s little joy in these
pages. Not a vintage season. |

Issue 14 - A Solid Bond in your Heart |
|
 |
Robert Lee was back on the front by the time West Ham rolled up on
Easter Monday. To put things in context, we’d failed to win since
we’d possed Leeds 3-1 at Elland Road in January three months
previously. It certainly wasn’t funny to watch us struggling to
score past Tim Flowers, a man who retired that summer for a hip
replacement operation, for 93 minutes until a ludicrous mishit from
Cort slipped in. We were wank and a finally full-colour snazzily
designed true faith reflected this throughout the 32 pages.
The new bandwagon was Safe Standing Areas; another campaign we’re
still right behind. Amazingly, we beat The Hammers 2-1. |

Issue 13 - Stay |
|
 |
Shay
Given had handed in an ill-judged transfer request, following losing
his place to Steve Harper in January 2001. The first colour cover
saw Shay with one word; STAY! in block capitals next to him.
Doubts about the depth and commitment of the squad had been
exacerbated by the infamous Charlton non-performance, after a week’s
R&R in Marbella too. Dissatisfaction was the tone of the day. New
features such as Sub Culture, the clobber column for clued-up
Geordies, came to life. Sadly the team didn’t, losing 1-0 to Massive
Club citeh. Sob! |
