Below is a copy of the email sent to all flag volunteers from Gallowgate Flags:
United face Wolves at home this Saturday and we’re planning another flag display for people wanting to collect flags from the wheelie bins pre game which will be out from 13.00 and put away at 14.40.
The wheelie bins will be at the Corner access’ only as we are short on volunteers to help out pre-game. The plan for this game is to concentrate the display in the Corner and East side of the Gallowgate only.
We’d love to do the whole Gallowgate each game but in reality we are only around 5-10 regular volunteers and we can only do so much.
If you would like to help us make Gallowgate Flags bigger and better, please get in touch by email for further details. By volunteering as an organiser you’d ideally be available a few hours before the match to re-tape and pole flags, distribute them to people willing to wave them, wave flags of your choice and help collect and store the flags afterwards.
By being part of Gallowgate Flags you can also get involved in the direction we take in terms of future flags displays and designs.
To get all 500 flags out (and the other few hundred we plan to order!) we realistically need 50 match day volunteers so please get in touch for more information if you’d like to help. Even if you can only help out the odd game a season, or maybe only before or only after a game, it would be a tremendous help and warmly appreciated.
On a positive note – we have successfully raised the money we needed for ‘Legends Day’ against Brentford on Saturday 15th October. Thank you to everybody who has donated to make this possible. We’re working with the club to make this a special day for the former players and their families. We’ll have 12 huge flags of former players which will cover the whole south stand of the ground.
We’re hoping Legends Day will be a huge success and a fitting tribute to:
Colin Veitch, Bill McCracken, Hughie Gallacher, Stan Seymour (senior), Jackie Milburn, Joe Harvey, Bob Moncur, Malcolm Macdonald, Kevin Keegan, Peter Bearsdsley, Alan Shearer and Sir Bobby Robson
Back to the Wolves game – no one would bet against another three points for Rafa and the lads and we hope to once again play a small part in an improved pre-game atmosphere. All of your photo’s and videos from the displays are warmly received and the best of which can be found on our website.
We hope to see many of you again on Saturday for the Corner/East Gallowgate display and then many more of you as volunteers soon.
