GALLOWGATE FLAGS : Black & White Day

As anyone who has been following the progress of the new GALLOWGATE FLAGS group will know, significant progress has been made in garnering the co-operation of Newcastle United and in fund-raising for new flags and banners ahead of the new season.

The latest step in the activities of GALLOWGATE FLAGS is to declare the first home game of the 2016/17 season v Huddersfield on Saturday 13/Aug/16 as a Black & White Day.

This is the first competitive fixture at St James’ Park since Rafa Benitez committed to the club as manager and it will be the first game many of the team Rafa is building will play at home as United players.

What this means is that GALLOWGATE FLAGS will be organising the biggest ever display of flags and banners ever seen at St James’ Park.

GALLOWGATE FLAGS wants to make this a memorable fixture for Rafa, all of the players and their families.  This is anTFFlag opportunity to welcome all of the new staff, players, their friends and families to our club and to our community.

The game and the display of support for the manager and the team will also send a message to the football world that relegation doesn’t mean Newcastle United is fading away and dying. Season ticket sales have increased dramatically and it is expected the game v. Huddersfield will be sold-out. We know the whole away end at Fulham has already sold out which is a remarkable feat for a fixture on a Friday night at the other end of the country also live on TV. Newcastle United has the greatest support in the world.

But back to Black & White Day.

Some 500 flags have been purchased and/or donated. Volunteers will help with their display from the GALLOWGATE but more needs to be done.

This is the ask:

GALLOWGATE FLAGS has a £5000 pre-season target and is very close to achieving that. Around £3000 of that total has already been invested in flags for Black & White Day but to support projects after that first event, more donations are needed. Most donations have been around £10, £20 etc so if you can afford to chuck some wedge into the pot, now is an ideal time. Every penny donated will go the purchase of flags and banners for display at St James’ Park.

Please donate here.

There will be other fund-raising activities to come which will need to be supported so GALLOWGATE FLAGS can continue to develop this culture at St James’ Park.

Everyone can play their part in this including Gallowgate Enders, those in other parts of St James’ Park, ex-pats and those who can’t get to games for whatever reason.

To make everything go smoothly GALLOWGATE FLAGS needs an army of volunteers on hand to make everything go perfectly. So if you are a GALLOWGATE END Season Ticket Holder and want to help out, please drop GALLOWGATE FLAGS a line on and don’t forget to include your seat and season ticket number. Then you’ll get the gen.

GALLOWGATE FLAGS is encouraging anyone who has their own flag and is situated in the GALLOWGATE to bring it and display it on Black & White Day. But if you do have a flag and for any reason can’t display it in the GALLOWGATE but who would like it to be displayed on Black & White Day, then please get in touch on  and arrangements will be made to collect it etc.

GALLOWGATE FLAGS wants St James’ Park but especially the GALLOWGATE  to be a sea of Black & White when the players run down the tunnel and receive their welcome. That’s why they are asking everyone to turn up wearing some form of Black& White be that replica shirts, scarves, hats or with something Black & White on display. Or whatever you choose.

That is all.

F*ck the algarve , don’t tell the missus I’m cancelling me holiday! Good luck with it all, absolutely fantastic feeling of comradeship…….there will be a north east clan huddled round a small telly in Portugal roaring the boys on. Good job I’ve got the extra championship games to compensate absent minded wife holiday booking!
I salute the 5k plus on the way to Fulham return with the points lads and lasses.
