We started our trip in the Haque, Holland for a 4 hour drive to Mainz for the game. Me and the other lads from the Newcastle United Netherlands were looking forwards to the game, not that far to travel but so far to travel at the same time!

In Mainz we met the Luxembourg Mags and Mags from England at the Irish pub for a few drinks pre-game.

At the Opel Arena it was very busy with people from Mainz and Newcastle – a decent attendance for a friendly and great support for the Mags in a pre season game.

Ahead of the game we got In touch with Gallowgate Flags to create our own ‘Netherlands Mags’ flag and hopefully you’ll see it at St James’ this season! Our flag from Holland was wanted by a lot of people who wanted a picture of it.

First half was a ow key affair one with a goal for Mainz so at halftime it was 0-1 . Hopefully second half Will bring more goals for the NUFC.

Second half we made 6 changes and got an equaliser but ended up losing the game 2 1. Pre-season! Not a great game but we missed a host of chances and should have won the game.

Best part of the day was a photo with Siem de Jong who saw during the game our flag with the away fans and was really pleased. As Dutch mags we are huge Siem fans and he was happy to see the flag and appreciated the support.
